Alphacore will use its advanced Analog to Digital Converter (ADC) architecture to develop circuitry to both measure time to 1 ps or better, and digitize waveforms at above 10Gs/s. This chip will enable distribution of a stable reference clock with jitter of 5 ps of less and precise frequency stabilization. The digitizer will be designed in a high-speed, low-power CMOS SOI technology that also provides inherent radiation hardness.
Several high energy physics experiments require accurate clock distribution timing to multiple detector components, accurate measurements and transient digitization of waveforms at high sampling rates that will be realized by this chip. This digitizer provides great benefits to numerous applications, including high energy physics, nuclear physics, medical imaging, basic energy science, radio astronomy and military/commercial radar applications.
