Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase II funding has been received from the DOE’s Office of High Energy Physics to enable further development of an innovative combination of Gallium Nitride (GaN) and CMOS microelectronic technologies to develop a radiation-hard power DC-DC converter. This converter is critically needed for the planned upgrades of the Large Hadron Collider in CERN. Alphacore’s novel high efficiency and superfast switching GaN based DC-DC converter has many potential commercial applications due to its high conversion efficiency, high current output, and compact size with enhanced thermal efficiency.
