The Department of Energy’s office of High Energy Physics has funded a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) Phase I that will enable the development of a novel DC-DC converter circuit.
Alphacore will design a highly efficient radiation hardened DC-DC converter that is critically needed in High Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) tracker upgrades, and can be used in other HEP experiments as well. The converter will utilize a high conductivity and superfast switching Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology. It will also include innovative Built-in-Self-Test (BIST) circuitry to monitor converter health in harsh environments over extended periods of time for long duration HL-LHC experiments, or Space-based satellite mission deployments, where opportunities for access will be very limited.
